I've carried a lot of bags. Daypacks, duffels, slings, roll-tops — you name it, I've probably stuffed it full of gear and hauled it down a trail or through an airport. But after spending real time with the Patagonia Black Hole Mini MLC 30L, I can say without hesitation: this is the best bag I've ever used. Here's why.

The Zipper System That Changes Everything

Let's start with what makes this bag genuinely different from everything else on the market: the way it opens.

The laptop compartment is designed with a nearly clamshell-style zipper that runs along the side of the bag — so you can swing it open and access your laptop without ever taking the pack off a luggage rack, opening the whole bag, or digging through gear. Heading through airport security? Pull the laptop from the side, slide it through the scanner, slide it back — done. No wrestling with zippers from the top while people pile up behind you.
